Degustabox | Autumn Box

Degustabox, Food, Drink, Monthly Subscription, Fdbloggers, Unboxing
If youve not heard of Degustabox, then where have you been? Its a food & drink monthly subscription box bringing you 10-15 surprise products, many which are new to the market. When you sign up, you get to fill in your very own profile, meaning a couple of the products may differ. Its actually the highlight of my week when this little beauty arrives on my doorstep so what was in October’s box?

·         A sachet of Levi Roots’ Smokey BBQ Coat n Cook sauce
·         Two packets of Maggi Fusian noodles
·         A packet of Yushoi Snapea rice sticks
·         A bottle of Robinsons Squash’d orange
·         A packet of Heinz Kids dry pasta shapes
·         A carton of Heinz Kids pasta sauce
·         A king size bar of Hershey’s Cookies n Creme
·         Two packet of Beloved Dates fruit hearts
·         A jar of JimJams chocolate spread
·         A packet of Pitch Choco Barre
·         A carton of I am Souper soup

I wanted to get this post uploaded before I made a start on Blogmas, so lucky you having two of these monthly posts in quick succession. Unfortunately, this means that a lot of the products are yet to be tried – and I was actually quite disappointed with this month’s box, as you’ll soon find out.

The Heinz Kids pasta & sauce made for a quick and easy midweek meal, even though there are no children in our house. To make it a little more substantial, ricotta and spinach could be added, or bacon lardons. I mean pasta and sauce is Basic AF. I’m yet to try the Maggi Infusian noodles, but I am intrigued by them. Each packet comes with three separate sachets: infused oil, some spices and dried vegetables. It’ll be interesting to see how they come together to create a meal. Levi Roots’ sauces have featured in previous boxes and we’ve tried various ones at home. The Smokey BBQ was perfect on chicken, but would be equally as lush on pork (or beef) ribs.

I absolutely loved the Beloved Dates fruit hearts, particularly the cocoa berry flavour, which were reminiscent of cake. I just loved the soft and squidgy texture and unlike similar products, there was no hardness when chewing – there’s nothing worse than date pit. I would definitely buy these again. However, I wasn’t a fan of the Yushoi Snapea rice sticks. I was sold at ‘healthier snack’, but I just found the flavour so boring and bland. I’m not a fan of ready salted snacks anyway, so would have preferred something with a bit of a kick, like chilli or black pepper.

During the winter months, I always take soup for work so the carton of I am Souper pulled pork & jalapeno soup was a welcome addition. I’m yet to try it, largely because I’m scared it’s going to be too spicy for my palate. Marketed as ‘high protein’ to keep you ‘fuller for longer’, this contains far more calories than my usual lunch but it’ll be interesting to see if it prevents me reaching for that afternoon snack. I’m also yet to try the JimJams chocolate spread – but cannot wait to try it, especially as it contains 83% less sugar than other brands. I’ll use this to make baked oats or add it as a topping to protein pancakes. I don’t really drink a lot of squash but the Robinsons Squash’d in orange is such a good idea. The little bottle is perfect for on-the-go and work/gym bags. I’ve had a couple of glasses using this squirty syrup and it doesn’t take that much different to normal orange squash – it’s more the novelty, I think.

This month I’m finishing with the treats and neither really impressed me. I’m not a fan of Hershey’s chocolate (is it me or does it have a bit of a sick taste?!) but my brother absolutely devoured the king size bar of Cookies n Creme so it wasn’t all bad! And the Pitch Choco Barres were nice enough: soft brioche finger buns with a chocolate centre. I just feel a soft chocolate or creme would have worked better than the solid chocolate. Thankfully each bar was individually wrapped – or else I’d have eaten the multi-pack in one sitting!
